How did Hung Vanngo get from the refugee camp to be one of the best makeup artists in the world. Among others, in a certain period, he was Selena Gomez’s makeup artist.
If you could describe Vanngo in one word, it would be “humble”. He was born in Vietnam. He was 6 years old when his mother, brother and sister escaped Vietnam in 1987. In the pursuit for the better life, they boarded the ship which took them not farther than Thailand. There, they spent three years in the refugee camp. At the time, the only country they were aware of was America, so it was logical for them to try to get there. However, they did not succeed. Nobody can understand what it is to live in the refugee camp or in a third world country, unless one experienced it.
Finally, in 1990, Canada accepted them so they moved there. Basically, success was not to live in a refugee anymore. To be precise, the childhood he had is high contrast compared to the life he is living now. He is split between New York and Los Angeles, doing makeups on famous peoples such as Kate Bosworth, Katy Perry, Gisele, Bundchen, Selena Gomez and many others. His brother is doing well too, being a professor at a university in Calgary. Sister is married with two children. In one word, he is happy with his life.
In November 2017, Vanngo was in Sydney. The occasion was to celebrate the launch of Marc Jacobs Eye-Conic Multi-Finish Eyeshadow Palette. As we said at the begining of the article, the word that can describe Vanngo is “humble”. He stated back than that he did not move to New York and said that he was a star. It was rather hard journey. Some of the agents would not want to hire him, so he had to go back and forth to Canada, to earn the money in order to fulfill the dream. So, he continued his way towards stars, from the bottom and slowly. As the time passed, he found his way up. As he once said, “nothing happens over night”.

He was working with Miranda Kerr when he met Selena Gomez. Actually this was nothing “wow” as he already worked with Miranda on several shoots. This was only logical as Selena was represented by the same agency as Miranda. On the set with Miranda, her agent was combining the crew for Selena and he picked Vanngo with whom he worked ever since.
