Lucia Pica, Italian, is living the dream. She is employed in Chanel as the Global Creative Designer for makeup and color. She goes everywhere in the line of work where she is getting the inspiration from the places she visits. Several times in a year she goes on a trip and then returns to Paris to identify the colors that eventually find the way to Chanel’s beauty collection.
The Inspiration for the Chanel’s Le Mat de Chanel Collection
The trip she took in 2017 in California was the inspiration for the 2017 collection while in 2018 she visited her home place, Naples. As she used to say, she likes to go all around and document everything around here. At numerous occasions, she took the photographer with her just to find the suitable colors. This is what she did in Naples for example. After the trip to Naples she returned to Paris where she started working on the concept. She would choose the colors that she likes the most with the question above her head “What would be a good lipstick or eye shadow?”.
Afterwards she would move to studio and mix up the colors and pigments which she would then submit to the lab so the professionals there could make the recipes. She is highly involved in the process.
For the collection of Le Mat de Channel collection, she tried something else. She grasped for the abstract on this matter. She wanted to create the intensity with the mat textures. Lucia wanted to go deeper in the tactility of it, something she did for her first collection. The goal was to expose matte texture in other ways for the lips and eyes.
Fun thing about matte is that your first association to this is the old-fashioned style. Something you could see in the 80s. However, this collection is modern one, it feels like soft cashmere touch.
